A successful herp rescue by Phil Peak

Herp Rescue, 5/20/2003
by Phil Peak

Yesterday afternoon I received a phone call from a concerned lady in Okolona who found a large snake prowling about on her lawn. Though her neighbors wanted to butcher it, she wanted to find another solution.

After calling the police and animal control, she finally came across contact information for the KHS.

I responded to the call and soon I was over at her house. I then identified it for her as a black rat snake. Previously she had been concerned that it may be dangerous or exotic. It seems there has been some new construction in her area, and it looks like this guy was searching for a new home.

Fortunately there are still people like this lady who don't feel a need to destroy what they don't understand.
