Conservation

Reptile and Amphibian Conservation is very important to The Kentucky Herpetological Society and has been since we organized in the 1990’s. Since that time we have concluded that we can be most effective by focusing our limited resources to conserving our native herp species.

The distributions of many native herp species here in Kentucky are still not fully understood and this type of information is vital when forming conservation strategies. We encourage all of our members and officers to gather this kind of information and to share it with the KHS Conservation Liaisons, Phil Peak and Will Bird. The KHS selectively shares this information with organizations like The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and The Kentucky State Nature Preserve Commission in an effect to assist in the ongoing development of organized reptile and amphibian conservation efforts in Kentucky.

Our organization has provided partial funding for several conservation projects that have contributed to our understanding of native herp distribution here in Kentucky. If you have a local project that needs funding, contact one of our officers with a proposal. There is also always a need for conservation fund donations. All donations to our non-profit organization are tax deductible and will be used directly to help fund our conservation efforts.

Please help us continue to conserve Kentucky’s reptiles and amphibians by donating to our Conservation Fund.
